Fourth Rhodes Scholar for St Cuthbert’s

2 February 2016

St Cuthbert’s Old Girl, Jade Leung, has received a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University.

Rhodes Scholarships recognise outstanding all-round students at the University of Oxford and Jade is the fourth St Cuthbert’s Old Girls to receive this prestigious award.

Jade will pursue a Doctorate with the School of Geography and the Environment, studying the Water-Energy-Good Nexus, which she describes as “non-negotiable necessities for human development.”

Jade is passionate about people and the environment and wishes to use her education to help both by developing policy that considers the way humans interact with the planet.

She was the 2011 Dux of St Cuthbert’s and received the Prime Minister’s Award for Academic Excellence as the top student in New Zealand.

The 22-two-year-old has also completed a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours in Environmental Engininging, in just three years at the University of Auckland. Recently she has studied a masters of philosophy in environmental policy at the University of Cambridge after receiving the William Georgetti Scholarship.

Congratulations Jade on these remarkable achievements.
