Sport is a powerful vehicle for developing essential life skills. Through sporting participation, our girls learn commitment, teamwork, resilience and perseverance—qualities that extend far beyond the playing field and prepare them for future success.
St Cuthbert’s offers an exceptional sports programme designed to help every girl discover her athletic potential and passion. With over 30 codes available, expert coaching staff, and outstanding facilities, we create an environment where girls thrive physically, mentally, and socially.

From individual pursuits like Cycling, Tennis, and Swimming to team sports including Rowing, Football, Hockey, Netball, and Water Polo, our comprehensive approach balances three key elements: encouraging widespread participation, providing competitive opportunities, and supporting high-performance pathways. Whether playing socially or pursuing elite performance, every girl finds her niche.
A Programme Tailored for Girls
As an all-girls’ school, we create a sporting environment specifically tailored to bring out the best in each student. In our inclusive and supportive community, girls feel less inhibited and more willing to try new sports and activities. This approach fosters a lifelong love of physical activity and wellness.
Participation to Excellence
St Cuthbert’s is proud of our tradition of sporting success and we frequently see our students standing on podiums. We are currently one of the top secondary schools for Hockey, Waterpolo, Orienteering, Athletics and Cross Country. Many of our students have gone on to represent New Zealand at international competitions. For our top athletes St Cuthbert’s assists with applying for scholarships at prestigious international universities and we have a number of students who been successful.
