What a result! A huge congratulations are in order for both our 1st and 2nd XI hockey teams. We are thrilled to share that over the weekend the 1st XI team won the Federation Cup! The girls played at a wonderfully high standard all week at the Christchurch based tournament, securing them a place in the final against St Andrew’s.
The final was a thrilling match, with a score of 1 – 1 when the full time whistle blew, which meant one thing, a penalty shoot-out! The girls performed incredibly well under pressure, and won the shoot-out 3 – 0. Well done girls, winning the Federation Cup is an outstanding achievement.
Over in Ashburton, the 2nd XI also put on a stellar performance, taking the win and claiming the Chris Arthur Cup against St Margaret’s. As the final whistle blew, the score was 0 – 0, but the girls entered the penalty shoot-out with grit and determination, and won 3 – 2. This is the first time St Cuth’s has won both trophies!
A big shout out to the parents of both teams, who kept spirits high from the side-lines, Liz Howard, Kerry Lancaster and of course to the marvellous coaches of both teams, Vic Methven, Liz Thompson, Tori Vao and Kaea Elliott.
With the hockey win, St Cuthbert’s currently holds four national sports titles – hockey, orienteering, water polo and fencing. It’s a wonderful testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our students and coaches.
