Year 13 Service Committee students pictured here building a greenhouse for giving charity partner, ‘Communities Feeding Communities’ in Mount Roskill
Our Year 13 Service Committee students are to be commended for their amazing hands-on service. Last night, they joined Heads of Science, Tom Curtis and Angie Tipping, with Reverend Joubert onsite at the ‘Communities Feeding Communities’ garden to build a greenhouse.
Communities Feeding Communities is dedicated to providing food security to local residents in need. St Cuthbert’s is delighted to support their incredible efforts by providing service time as well as donations as they assist people to achieve food security, with dignity. Those in need can come and grow crops in the allotments, receive produce as a result of our donations to the Foodbanks, and over the long-term learn how to grow and cook food.
The greenhouse was funded from the congregation collection at the 2022 Christmas Carol Service. The Science team are already working with Year 5 girls to grow seedlings which will be transferred to the greenhouse and, when ready, will be planted in the garden beds.
10% of the money raised from the Gifting Amazing Annual Fund, up to the target, will be given to gift new shelving and chillers, which will store Foodbank donations. The wonderful donations to our Gifting Amazing Annual Fund have resulted in not only delivering five key initiatives for the College but also the gift of new shelving and chillers to aid the important work of this charity.
We would like to also give thanks to our Junior School teachers, pictured below, who visited Communities Feeding Communities last week to plant passionfruit trees.
