We had a fantastic turn out of Year 7 and 8 students for the 2024 Zespri AIMS Games. This year there were 75 students that represented St Cuthbert’s College in various sports codes for team sports and individual.
The Year 7 and 8 hockey team played nine games across the five days, competing against some tough competition during pool play, including Paraparaumu who ended up coming 2nd overall for the tournament. The team showed great improvement throughout the week and finished 13th overall out of 28 teams. The team consisted of; Billie Wild, Caroline Horrocks, Issy Jackson, Cara May, Penelope Sigley, Ziyao Wang, Cleo Lindsay, Lucy Craig, Zara Brewer and Pippa Allen. Caroline Horrocks received the AIMS Team Player Award for her effort and positivity throughout the week away.
The Year 7-8 water polo team had an incredible week at the AIMS Games in Tauranga, showcasing their skills and determination. After a hard-fought 4-3 victory against Dio in the semifinals, they faced Remuera Intermediate in an intense final. With both teams battling until the end, our girls emerged victorious with a narrow 3-2 win, securing the AIMS Games A Grade Girls championship. The AIMS Team Player Award was awarded to Teina Mutu-Grigg for her encouragement and support of her team mates throughout the week.
Congratulations to our AIMS Netball team for their fantastic efforts at AIMS. The team got the opportunity to compete against schools they would not normally play. With wins and losses throughout the week the team finished 58th out of 140 teams. Well done to the 10 players who participated.
Our AIMS footballers played with a real plan and style winning four, drawing three and losing three of their 10 matches over the five days of play. Ella Mace was our player of the tournament who led the way with her speedy runs and goals plus her admirable off-field attitude. With half of this team being Year 7s the future looks bright for an even stronger showing next year.
Thanks to Coach Sander Waterland and Assistant Julia Anderson who inspired the girls to give it all each day and also thanks to Ms Vujcich for help keeping the girls well fed and ready to go each morning.

AIMS Gymnastics
We had four students compete at the AIMS Gymnastics for 2024. Cheverny Jayasuriya competed in the Open Step 5 Women’s Artistic Gymnastic where she placed 1st in floor, 3rd in bar and 3rd overall. Alicia Li placed 7th overall in the Open Step 6 Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, she also placed 1st in floor. Angela Baird placed 2nd overall in the Rhythmic Open Junior division, placing 1st in Rope and 2nd in Ball. Hannah Yun placed 5th overall in the Rhythmic Open Senior division.
AIMS Tennis
Jocelyn Ke came 6th overall in the Girls Single division for AIMS Tennis.
AIMS Cross Country
We had four students compete for AIMS Cross Country, Ila Salter, Olivia Bennett, Caroline Horrocks and Sophie Bacchus.
AIMS Badminton
Hannah Huang competed in the AIMS Badminton competition winning three of her games.
AIMS Squash
Angela Chen and Julia Chen competed in the AIMS Squash competition, Julia came 6th and Angelina came 7th overall out of 23 in the Girls Division.
AIMS Orienteering
We had nine students attend AIMS Orienteering for the first ever AIMS Orienteering event and they achieved some fantastic results. Cheverny Jayasuriya came 2nd in the Year 7 sprint out of 73 athletes. Sophie Bacchus and Anneliese Barfoot came 3rd in the Year 8 Rogaine. Isabel Merz received the team sportsmanship award for Orienteering.
AIMS Mountain Biking
Georgia Mollison placed 14th overall in the AIMS Cross Country Mountain Biking.
AIMS Golf
Jolin Wu and Ziyi Wang competed in the AIMS 18 hole golf competition where Ziyi came 6th overall and Jolin came 15th.
AIMS Swimming
We had six students attend AIMS Swimming this year and the girls achieved some great results over the three days of competition. Kathryn Bates came 3rd in the Girls 11 year old 100m IM, 2nd in the Girls 11 year old 200m Breaststroke, 2nd in the Girls 11 year old 100m Breaststroke, 2nd in the Girls 11 200m Backstroke and 3rd in the 200m IM. Hope Wang came 1st in the Girls 13 year old 100m IM, 1st in the Girls 13 year old 50m Butterfly, 1st in the Girls 13 year old 200m Breaststroke, 1st in the Girls 13 year old 200m Freestyle, 1st Girls 13 100m Fly, 1st in the Girls 13 200m Back, 1st in the Girls 100m Breaststroke, 2nd place in the Girls 13 50m Freestyle, 1st place Girls 13 200m IM, 1st place Girls 13 50m Backstroke, 1st place Girls 13 50m Breaststroke, 1st place Girls 13 100m Freestyle. Talitha Mitchell came 3rd in the Girls 11 50m Breaststroke and 3rd in the 100m Breaststroke.
The Girls 13 and under 4x50m Medley Relay came 4th overall (Kathryn Bates, Talitha Mitchell, Hope Wang and Jessica Yeoman). The Girls 13 and under 6x50m Freestyle came 3rd overall (Jessica Yeoman, Stella Johns, Talitha Mitchell, Olivia Lambie, Kathryn Bates and Hope Wang).
