International Day of the Girl

Today is International Day of the Girl, it is a day that aims to recognise girls; rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. As the day has fallen in the holidays the Head Prefect team lead initiatives in the last week of Term to do their part in helping girls in need in their community. The theme this year is ‘Elevating Girls’ Voices for Sustainable Development’.

The week began with a rubbish collection followed by group sessions where students were encouraged to write messages about what they like about being a woman and sustainability.

Some of the thoughts shared were:

  • My willingness to make the most of opportunities
  • my confidence, my ability to speak up when I am uncomfortable,
  • my kindness, talent and my determination when I am passionate about something
  • By using better beauty products and disposing of them correctly.
  • Reduce waste, recycling
  • Take shorter showers.

Our Service Prefects have been running a Period Product Drive by a ‘buy one, donate one’ system with the products being distributed to those in need in Term 4.
