Jifei Shao (Year 13, 2024) Awarded Prime Minister’s Award for Academic Excellence

This award is the highest academic honour available for NZ senior school students, recognising the top-scoring participant in New Zealand Scholarship.

We are so incredibly proud of Jifei for this remarkable win and she is the first female student to be recognised as the top academic scholar in 13 years. St Cuthbert’s Alumni, Jade Fai Leung was the last female to win in 2011.

The award was presented by Hon Erica Stanford, at the prestigious 2024 NZ Scholarship Top Scholar Awards Ceremony in Wellington on today.

Alongside Jifei, Premier Scholars and twins Ena and Belle Yin were recognised for their immense academic achievements in 2024. Special recognition was given to Belle Yin for winning Top of Subject – Chinese. Huge congratulations girls on truly impressive results.

These are the only academic awards in New Zealand that every school can participate in as they recognise top-scoring participants in NZQA Scholarship exams.

Principal Charlotte Avery, Former Head of Senior School Suzanne Winthrop and Deputy Head of Senior School, Julia Fuge, were so proud to be in attendance and see our girls cross the stage. “Such stunning results are testament to the dedication of these students and their teachers, and it was gratifying to celebrate these phenomenal students as they walked across the stage,” said Julia Fuge, Deputy Head of Senior School.
