STCC Dancers Claim 1st Place at International Hip Hop Competition

STCC made history last weekend, taking 1st place at Project Dance Competition in Mount Maunganui. This was the school’s first ever appearance at the event and their debut as a Megacrew.

Thirty-one students from Years 8 to 13 travelled to compete at Project, one of the largest international hip hop competitions in the country, which drew more than 100 crews from across the world over the weekend. STCC competed in the Megacrew category against seven other crews, going up against 15 NZ high schools in total.

The result was made all the more remarkable by the fact that it was the first time many of the dancers had competed at a competition of this calibre. For the school, it marked a significant milestone as both a debut at the event and their first performance as a Megacrew.

The team has been training every Sunday in the lead-up to the competition, and the hard work clearly paid off. Their coaches noted they were particularly proud not just of the result, but of the positivity and sportsmanship shown by the girls throughout the entire experience.

Congratulations to all the dancers, coaches, and supporters who were part of this incredible achievement.
